Schuh Distribution Centre
Supporting the continued expansion of a valued client’s footwear business through its new major distribution centre.
The background
We are extremely proud of our successful twenty five year working relationship with Schuh Limited, the fashion footwear retailer, extending not just to retail stores and their fit-out but to the Head Office and distribution centres that support them.
Following previous projects to extend Schuh’s original Head office and warehouse in Livingston, West Lothian, the need was identified for a new larger distribution centre to support the continued expansion of the business.
The design approach
We were appointed to design and manage the fit-out of their new 240,000 square feet European distribution centre in Bathgate, a few miles from the existing headquarters.
Schuh’s new distribution centre is the key component in the infrastructure serving the company’s growth over the coming decade, both through physical stores and increasingly through on-line sales channels. Our team were responsible for taking the building from shell condition to an operational distribution centre, including the incorporation of advanced automated storage and sorting machinery.
The impact
The new building provides premium facilities, with state-of-the-art automated sorter systems, stock storage and picking areas, bulk storage and office and canteen facilities for staff.
Since completion additional automation has been added along with other specialist facilities including new photographic studios for the e-commerce team.
