Private Residential
Statement homes for sustainable,
luxury living
Luxury sustainable living with cityscape views
This striking example of a contemporary private residence capitalises on its elevated position and offers breathtaking views over the city skyline.
The development site lies on a private street on a south facing plot that rises towards a ridgeline that affords spectacular 360 degree panoramic views. The radical reconfiguration and extension of the existing property minimises waste and maximises sustainability, repurposing a poorly performing property into an exceptional bespoke family home.
The development combines luxury living with sustainable best practice, showcasing how the retention of existing building fabric can be augmented through intelligent reconfiguration and extension. In a sensitive landscape context, the bold contemporary design acknowledges the neighbouring arts and crafts heritage and homes, creating a distinctive local landmark.
Faithful restoration meets modern family living
The restoration of this former country house at Torwood, harmoniously blends with its neighbouring contemporary new build apartments and presents a design for modern family living.
Twenty-eight residential units, five delivered through the conversion of three category B listed buildings and twenty-three through the addition of two new build pavilions were delivered with the original landscaped garden grounds.
Respectful to its place in local history as a former country house built in 19th century Neo-Jacobean style, the restoration project received the highest degree of combined expertise from the residential and conservation team, with specialist craftsmen commissioned, from stonemasons faithfully restoring and repairing intricate detailing to joiners fabricating and refurbishing timber windows.
Breathing new life into an iconic piece of heritage landscape
These nationally significant buildings and landscape at Craighouse Campus, dating back to 1528 are being given a sustainable future through a masterplan which sees the conversion of seven category A listed buildings into a bespoke, luxury residential development featuring sixty-four homes alongside new residences.
The highly sensitive restoration project has seen extensive collaboration with Historic Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage, Architecture & Design Scotland and The City of Edinburgh Council, to create a wide range of exceptional apartments, complemented by contemporary new residential buildings.
Through a careful balance of conservation and design innovation, every property offers a bespoke combination of heritage and contemporary luxury.
Transforming a historical building with a thoughtful contemporary twist
As part of a broader masterplan, the conversion and repurposing of this category B listed building, dating back to the 1500s has created luxury, self-contained private residential apartments.
Priorsgate was originally a wing of Queen Mary’s House, partly demolished and rebuilt with an extension and vaulted cellars before being separated from the house several years later.
Works over the buildings’ three storeys reflected and retained the charming and historic character of the building, with vaulted ceilings and other features including cornicing, wooden staircases and timber shutters in place.
Creating a sanctuary of style and comfort
This collaboration with interior designer Julia McKeough has resulted in a sophisticated interior for this private client that seamlessly merges modern luxury with subtle Scottish inspiration.
The space radiates refined elegance, achieved through meticulously curated lighting, accessories, and furnishings that exude opulence without excessive ornamentation. The layout is designed to maximise natural light and views, while also providing intimate settings for relaxation and entertainment.
Every detail, from bespoke accessories to custom furnishings, is meticulously chosen to elevate the space and evoke a timeless sense of luxury. The result is an apartment that exudes understated elegance and refined sophistication, offering a sanctuary of style and comfort for the discerning resident.
